Apple fans and technology geeks in general know that right now WWDC is taking place in San Jose, California. WWDC stands for World Wide Developers Conference, and it’s an annual event hosted by Apple where they announce, predominantly, new resources and features for Apple and iOS developers.
Occasionally new devices and hardware updates are also announced during the event, as happened this year with the Apple Homepod, which is Apple’s smart speaker that comes with the Siri assistant. The device is going to compete against Amazon Echo and Google Home.
But that is not the announcement that made us curious, but rather what Apple is calling Business Chat. That is what they written so far in the official page:
Business Chat is a powerful new way for businesses to connect with customers directly from within Messages. Using Business Chat, your customers can get answers to questions, resolve issues and complete transactions on their iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Customers can find your business and start conversations from Safari, Maps, Spotlight, and Siri.
As you can see, Apple is creating a platform that will enable interactions between businesses and their customers inside Messages, the default messaging app on iSO. It is not really clear if chatbots that automated the conversation will be allowed, but we believe so, else it would be difficult for large businesses to scale the operation, and Apple would be falling behind on the AI race against Facebook and Google.
Several platforms and messaging apps are opening chatbot APIs lately, including Skype, Twitter and Facebook Messenger. This means that as we go forward businesses will need to spend some time deciding where they should focus, as rolling out a chatbot on all platforms is not always feasible under a technical or cost point of view.
We are still not sure how the Apple platform will work, however, as they have not presented it officially yet. As you can see on the page we mentioned above, the official keynote for Business Chat will take place this Friday, June 09. You can watch it live (from Apple devices).
We will be watching and paying attention to all the details, and will be updating this post and publishing a new one with all the information you need to know, so stay tuned!Recommended for you: When Will WhatsApp Chatbots be Introduced?
